Interview with Shannon!

Who is your BTS bias and why?
RM. Very early in my BTS fandom, during a day out in NYC with friends, we stopped by the Nature Republic in Union Square. Chatting with an employee because BTS was playing in the store, it was revealed that I did not have a bias. But apparently, my bias was so obvious — even though I didn’t know it — that, even though she’d only met me minutes before, she called me out. “RM!”

What is your favorite form of creative expression these days?
Lately I’ve been writing. Even poetry. This is not typical, and it is not comfortable. But it’s been thrillingly uncomfortable.

How has BTS influenced your relationship with your creativity/art practice?
In that vein, I’d like to make a short film with Jungkook. A fable. Or modern, urban folk tale. Maybe the film equivalent of a lullaby.

If you could do any kind of creative project with one member of BTS, who would it be and what kind of project would you do?
Receiving the first issue! Hardcopy. In my hands. I find it very rewarding to be part of creating something together with others, and for me, that extends to the art itself. Each poem, each illustration, each story speaks alongside the others in the issue.

What has been your favorite part of being involved with Dream Glow? Favorite Dream Glow memory?
I’m an educator at heart, so I’m always excited for nurturing communities of artists and writers. Studios, workshops, discussions.

What are you looking forward to in this second year of Dream Glow?
I am looking forward to watching this community and team grow! So many things have happened in this first year that I could not have imagined, and I am excited to see what else ARMY has in store.

What is one thing you would tell potential Dream Glow contributors and members of the Dream Glow community?
The first time is always scary, but take the plunge! Draw courage from BTS’s own combination of steely resolve and vulnerability and share your work with someone you never have before. A friend, if you’ve never shown anyone. A fellow artist, if only friends. Maybe even with us at Dream Glow!
